Octopus ISR Systems reveals Epsilon 175 – the world’s smallest four-sensor MWIR gimbal

On the first day of Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Xponential Show, Octopus ISR Systems announced its brand new development – the Epsilon 175. With a weight of only 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs) and a size of 175mm(D) x 206mm (H) (6.8 in x 8.1 in), this new gyro-stabilized payload is said to be the world’s smallest and lightest four-sensor Medium Wavelength Infrared (MWIR) gimbal. Featuring a 30x optical zoom electro-optical (EO) sensor, 15x optical zoom MWIR sensor, laser range finder and laser illuminator, this gimbal is an ideal choice for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) used for border control, military purposes and a variety of civil applications.

“This new development unlocks totally different capabilities for Tactical UAVs under 55 lbs where maximum payload size and weight constraints limit payload performance,” says Octopus ISR Systems Business Development Manager Konstantins Krivovs. “Using the Epsilon 175, small UAV manufacturers can expand their operations by being able to gather and deliver higher quality and more accurate data. This type of equipment also enables Tactical UAVs to fulfill certain missions that were traditionally fulfilled by medium-altitude long-endurance UAVs with the same quality and at a much lower cost.”

It is important to note that the Epsilon 175 will not only benefit small UAV manufacturers; larger UAV manufacturers will get a huge benefit as well. By decreasing the weight of the payload, UAV endurance increases considerably to enable longer missions or more spare capacity for other equipment.

As has been the case with previous Epsilon gimbals, which stand out in the market because of their leading stabilization performance and advanced functionality, the Epsilon 175 is receiving a great deal of interest from potential customers. Those who have seen the Epsilon 175 in action admire the performance and high accuracy of its integrated sensors, and they frequently compliment the high level of mechanical engineering in the gimbal structure.

If you would like to see the benefits of using the Epsilon 175 on your platform, check it out at the Octopus ISR Systems booth #2147 at the AUVSI Xponential Show in Dallas, TX.
